We are recruiting to fill the position below:

Job Title: Director, Health and Humanitarian Affairs

Location: Addis Ababa, Ethiopia

Job Responsibilities

  • Develops and executes the overall strategy for the department and ensures alignment with overall organizational strategy;
  • Manages and supervises employees within the directorate, ensures the timely delivery of the directorate’s goals and effective staff performance evaluation;
  • Drives the implementation and monitoring of policies, strategies and programs to contribute to the effective implementation of relevant AU Policy Organs Decisions;
  • Ensures the delivery of the directorate’s annual targets in line with the organization’s overall goals and maintains robust departmental monitoring and evaluation systems;
  • Provides technical leadership and ensures efficient functioning of all Divisions within the department/directorate;
  • Manages the work of the Department/Directorate and supervises direct reports to ensure their effective performance in line with the organization’s performance management policy and system;
  • Leads the directorate/department and ensures effective management of personnel, budget, performance, program quality, employee relations matters and training in conformity with relevant rules, policies and procedures;
  • Builds and maintains good working relations and collaboration with other directorates/departments;
  • Develops and maintains regular working relations with senior stakeholders in Member State and partner institution;
  • Coordinates meetings between the organization and relevant partners;
  • Ensures the preparation of periodic financial and budget execution reports and other reports;

Qualifications and Requirements

  • Master’s Degree in Public Health, Public Administration, International Development, Humanitarian Services or relevant Medical Sciences or social science studies with a minimum of fifteen (15) years of relevant experience of which eight (8) should be at managerial level and five (5) years at the supervisory level.
  • Ability to use strong managerial delegation, political tact and supervisory skills to achieve documented objectives
  • Ability to work effectively with people from various backgrounds and create an environment where diversity is respected

Tenure of Appointment

Job Title: Senior Policy Officer – Fisheries and Aquaculture

Location: Addis Ababa, Ethiopia

Job Responsibilities

  • Provide technical support in the preparation and implementation of the programme
  • Contribute to the development of guidelines, policies and manuals that can guide the programme, and decision making by higher management
  • Contribute to the elaboration of documents for the meetings of relevant STC and its Bureau
  • Support the organization of biennial African ministerial dialogue on fisheries and aquaculture
  • Facilitate the generation of synergies among ongoing and planned initiatives relating to fisheries and aquaculture between various departments of the African Union Commission
  • Facilitate adequate mainstreaming of project outcomes into the AU fora and policy processes
  • Support the harmonization and coordinated, synergistic implementation of Africa Blue Economy Strategy with other related AU and partners’  instruments

Qualifications and Requirements

Interested candidates must possess:

  • Post-graduate University degree (Master’s degree) in fisheries sciences, fisheries socio-economics, related equivalent disciplines in policy and planning. A PhD degree in relevant fields will be an added advantage.
  • A minimum of seven (7) years of relevant experience in the fisheries and aquaculture development in Africa of which at least three (3) years should at the supervisory level;

OR:

  • Bachelor university degree in fisheries sciences, fisheries socio-economics, related equivalent disciplines in policy and planning.
  • Qualification(s) in related Aquatic Sciences would be an added advantage.
  • A minimum of ten (10) years of relevant experience in aquaculture in African Fisheries of which at least three (3) years should be at supervisory level.
  • Sound experience of institutions set up at national and regional levels for fisheries and aquaculture management and development;
  • Extensive experience in formulation of policies, strategies relating to fisheries and aquaculture at national, regional or continental levels;
  • Familiarization with African Union policy processes, institutions  and initiatives relevant to fisheries and aquaculture;
  • Sound knowledge of CAADP process;
  • Familiarization with AU instruments supporting ocean governance, fisheries and aquaculture sector;
  • Sound knowledge of global instruments and processes relevant to fisheries and aquaculture;
  • Record of working experience externally funded relevant development projects and/or knowledge of partners’ interventions in fisheries and aquaculture sector in Africa.
  • Demonstrated experience in dealing with senior government officials and development partners
  • Good networking skills and ability to maintain positive and constructive dialogue and relationships with key institutions operating in the regions;
  • Self-starter with the ability to strategically plan own work;
  • Very strong writing, analytical and communication skills are necessary.

Job Title: Fisheries and Aquaculture Resources Management Expert

Location: Nairobi, Kenya

Job Responsibilities

  • Provide technical support in the preparation and implementation of the programme
  • Contribute to development of guidelines, policies and manuals that can guide the programme, and decision making by higher management
  • Strengthen capacity for advocacy development  for  evidence-based, rational fisheries management and aquaculture development
  • Strengthen capacity for data collection and utilization for rational fisheries management and responsible aquaculture development
  • Facilitate rationalization for effective operationalization of fisheries and aquaculture stakeholders’ based platforms, networks and centres of excellence
  • Support mechanism for effective stakeholders consultations and modalities to engage and document stakeholder contributions at national and RECs’ levels
  • Promote uptake and implementation of knowledge, innovations and best practices to inform policy change at national and regional levels

Qualifications and Requirements

Interested candidates must posses:

  • Post-graduate University Degree (Master’s degree) in Fisheries Sciences, Aquaculture or related aquatic sciences. PhD qualification in relevant disciplines would be an added advantage;
  • A minimum of seven (7) years of relevant experience in aquaculture in the African fisheries sector and of which at least three (3) years should at supervisory level;

  • Proven experience in promoting regional cooperation  and coherence in the sector and  knowledge on the activities and roles of  RECs and RFOs in fisheries and aquaculture sector
  • Record of  capacity building for management of shared and transboundary fisheries and aquaculture resources
  • Proven Knowledge  of regional and global instruments and initiatives relevant to African fisheries management and aquaculture  development
  • Record of formulating  and publication of knowledge  products in  fisheries management approaches and aquaculture development practices
  • Proven knowledge on co-management practices and working experience with fishing and fish farming communities and other non-state actors in African fisheries and aquaculture sector
  • Sound knowledge on issues of high seas fisheries and  governance of large marine ecosystems
  • Demonstrated experience in dealing with senior government officials and development partners;
  • Good networking skills and ability to maintain positive and constructive dialogue and relationships with key institutions operating in the regions;

Job Title: Fisheries and Aquaculture Trade and Investment Officer

Location: Nairobi, Kenya

Job Responsibilities

  • Provide support in the following up on the activities of the project, including monitoring and evaluating progress made in line with a predefined strategic plan
  • Contribute in conducting analysis and generate accurate reports in a timely manner
  • Participate in the organisation of relevant meetings, congresses and conferences with stakeholders.

  • Assist in setting the overall research direction, and in executing studies on a relevant policy area.

Qualifications and Requirements

Interested candidates must possess:

  • Bachelor university degree in Marketing and Trade in Agriculture Products (Preferably with specialization in fish and fisheries products) or Economics (preferably in Natural Sciences). Qualification(s) in related Natural Sciences would be an added advantage.
  • A minimum of five (5) years of relevant experience in marketing and trade of agricultural products in Africa. Experience at supervisory level will be an added advantage.

Or:

  • A Post-graduate University degree (Master’s degree) in Marketing and Trade in Agriculture Products (Preferably with specialization in fish and fisheries products) or Economics (preferably in Natural Sciences). Qualification(s) in related Natural Sciences would be an added advantage
  • A minimum of two (2) years of relevant experience in marketing and trade of agricultural products in Africa. Experience at supervisory level will be an added advantage.
  • Record of familiarization of African fisheries and aquaculture sector;
  • Sound knowledge on challenges and trade issues in fisheries and aquaculture of Africa;
  • Proven knowledge on international trade  and marketing issues in fish and fisheries products, including familiarization with standard-setting organizations;
  • Experience in capacity building of stakeholders along value chains (with specific regards to post-harvest activities) in fisheries and aquaculture sector;
  • Knowledge of regional and international instruments, strategies, frameworks, guidelines, tools etc. for agricultural commodity trade facilitation etc.;
  • Sound knowledge on roles of regional organizations (RECs, RFBs etc.) in fisheries and aquaculture development.
  • Good networking skills and ability to maintain positive and constructive dialogue and relationships with key institutions;
  • Experience in dealing with senior government officials and international development partners;
  • Self-starter with the ability to plan own work with reference to defined strategies;
  • Very strong writing, analytical and communication skills are necessary.
